Why we do it
From Freya Anderson MBE, Founder at Freya Anderson Swim Training (FAST):
Our goal is simple. We want to educate and support girls in sport and build their confidence to inspire enjoyment and longevity. We want to build a community to support women in sport and started out with our very first FAST and Female swim clinic in 2024.
Women and girls face many problems whilst growing up, such as, issues with body confidence, balancing home life and school and dealing with a menstrual cycle. Now throw competing in a sport into the mix!
“64% of girls quit sport by the time they finish puberty. From personal experience, sport, and swimming in general, has brought me so much confidence and joy. This is what makes this statistic so upsetting. All of the team here want to make sport as accessible as possible, and starting with FAST and female, providing support and education, is our first step.”
Freya Anderson, MBE is a 2 x Olympian, Olympic Champion, European Champion, and World and Commonwealth medalist. Born in the North West of England Freya learnt to swim in the Wirral, Merseyside and started her competitive swimming journey with Hoylake Swimming Club before moving on to the local performance club, Wirral Metro. She is known as a freestyle swimmer, with a particular strength in relays, never happier than when anchoring her team.
Always tall for her age and incredibly shy as a child, Freya counts swimming as being key to building her confidence and has gone on to compete for her country at iconic swimming venues throughout the world. She was awarded an MBE in 2022 for her services to swimming. Freya is currently based in Stirling and is training for the Olympic Games in LA in 2028.
Feedback from our Swim Clinics 💞
“Freya was really reassuring that it's ok to go swimming when you have your period and it was great that she talked about having her period at the world championships and leaking on poolside..”

“The fast and female team are an inspiration to young female athletes - I wish I had this support when I was swimming all those years ago! These 4 women have such a depth of knowledge and experience and this is shown throughout the day. They were confident, empathetic and inclusive throughout the entire day.”
Swim Mum, Wythenshawe Clinic
